After yet another rain affected week, all grades were canceled except our Cavaliers T20 Beckenham Butchers.
Report from Lachlan:
The Beckenham Butchers travelled up the Northern Corridor to Woodend over the weekend where they took on one of the heavyweights in the competition Hornby CC.
For the first time in a while we were greeted by an artificial wicket which was definitely a bonus as we had been working very hard in an indoor facility during pre-season. We were sent in to bat and it didn’t take long for us to realise it was going to be a real struggle to score runs due to a pain-stakingly slow outfield. The openers set about building a solid platform which then gave a few of the guys down the order the freedom to swing the willow. The butchers ended up setting a target of 120/5 with our Captain Scott leading the way with 28.
Buoyed by a competitive total the lads set about defending this and the best way to do this was pick up early wickets. Our openers James and Jordie got us off to a perfect start and Hornby suddenly found themselves 3 wickets down in the first 5 overs. Unfortunately their 4th wicket stand proved to be the deciding factor as our back up bowlers just lacked a bit of that killer instinct we had seen in previous years. Hornby eventually chased the target down with 2.5 overs to spare.
Overall it was a great day out in Woodend and a big thank you to Canterbury Country cricket for allowing us to use their facilities and as always to our sponsors! Next up we are back in familiar territory at Waltham 1 against New Brighton.

After a delayed start to the season with ground preparation behind due to Covid, all our teams were looking forward to getting out on the park this week. Unfortunately with rain all week, and little time to prepare grass wickets, everyone got moved to artificial wickets, and Cavaliers T20 got given another week off.
See below for a short summary of games, but it was great to see, even with 4 losses on the board, a few notable performances pop up for the board already. (My 6 off 35 balls doesn’t make the cut unfortunately.. )
